What is the current PPF interest rate?
The PPF interest rate for FY 2025-26 is 7.1% per annum, reviewed quarterly by the Ministry of Finance. Interest is compounded annually and credited at the end of each financial year.
Is PPF interest taxable?
No. PPF has EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) status — contributions (80C), interest earned, and maturity amount are all completely tax-free. This makes PPF one of the most tax-efficient investments in India.
Can I open PPF for my child?
Yes, you can open a PPF account for a minor child. The ₹1.5 lakh annual limit applies across all PPF accounts (own + minor child). The account matures after 15 years.
Can I take a loan against PPF?
Yes, from the 3rd to 6th year. Loan amount is up to 25% of the balance at end of 2nd preceding year. Interest rate on loan is 1% above PPF rate.
What happens after PPF matures?
After 15 years, you can withdraw fully or extend in 5-year blocks. With contributions, you can continue depositing up to ₹1.5 lakh/year. Without contributions, balance continues earning interest.
